Photographer, Tim Saccenti, had an idea for the Complex-Travis Scott cover story, Idol Worship. To place Travis at the helm of an epic brutalistic monument-head, floating over surreal landscapes. And it had to be Travis’ head. So Tim tapped HFTF’s CD, Mark to team up and make this possible. The best approach was to 3D scan Travis during the photoshoot, and then develop the floating head structure in CGI.
It was a balancing act of generalizing the form to feel like a giant sculpture, while maintaining recognizability. The result appeared in both the Complex print magazine and in their interactive web story, using both the external floating head, as well as an interior environment, from where the actual Travis gazes out onto Tim’s landscape photography.
